Policy Variables for scalable policy management

What’s new?

You can now use variables in your policy templates to personalize them faster and manage updates more efficiently.

  • Centralized policy field values: Define details like org name, location, or infra setup once, and use them across all relevant policies via placeholder variables.

  • Automatic policy updates: Edit the value in one place, and Scrut automatically applies the update to every policy using that variable.

  • Visibility and control: See which policies will be impacted before confirming changes.

Why it matters

Policy maintenance often involves repetitive work and is prone to human error. For example, updating a single product name across 15 different documents can easily lead to inconsistencies and versioning errors. Policy Variables solve this by ensuring consistency across all policy documents and reducing manual work.

How it works

  1. Go to Compliance → Policies → Settings → Policy Variables

  2. Define values for each variable (e.g., {{organization_name}}, {{product_name}})

  3. Submit once all values are filled in

  4. These values are automatically applied to all impacted policies

  5. Preview/download the policy to see real-time substitution

Once submitted, variables can only be edited from within an existing policy file. This ensures audit traceability and avoids accidental changes.
